Ok, maybe Behner has a good argument over Julio Velasco for JL Nebraska Award, but no one has an argument over Velasco for Gillstrom Award. If that's not anonymous I will start an investigation. Seriously.

how is velasco still a rookie? He has pitched in 26 games spread out over the last 2 seasons.

EDIT: also not listed on any of the rookie eligible leaderboards in game.... The vegas guy who I do want to give a spot on my ballot (pichon) isn't even on there.

I dunno, but other than me doing a boatload of work making a ballot no one will look at anyway, this is what we have.

Velasco is still a rookie because he was under the service time threshold and had fewer than 50 IP when the season started. He would have been a rookie by MLB standards too.

I know he has no shot, but David Noboru deserves consideration for the Silk. He completely stuffed the stat sheet this year, having arguably a better season than Rutledge had last year.

.348/.396/.616, 233 hits, 41 doubles, 43 HR, 116 RBI, 135 R, 112 SB (79%), .415 wOBA, 9.66 RC/27, 157 OPS+, 9.6 WAR

Just in case anyone has Gillstrom fatigue ;)

i gave serious consideration to him but couldn't do it. He would run circles over any other player in either league though.

And I didn't realize that velasco managed to still stay under the guidelines (weird because he doesn't show up on the rookie leaderboards. Before recte flips the table, I will fess up to leaving him off the ballot completely. I did it because I don't feel he is a rookie.

Does it really matter? He's a lock for the Gillstrom no matter what.

Gillstrom's case is not bulletproof this season. Noboru won't win, but maybe he should...

Actually, no, which did bother me since Jin-song Xuan should have at least been mentioned for Gillstrom. He shouldn't win or anything.

So it looks like Calgary won the Frick Triple Crown, although it was 2 different players. I don't think we have ever had a player lead the league in AVG, HR, RBIs in the same year. Hope this will lead to some awards for the mantle. Balderas put us in the playoffs.

You guys, I totally called this Velasco season.

He's had a phenominal year, and should be at least okay for a bit. However, that changeup is still a long-term worry. He did have a 3.61 FIP and 'only' 5.5 WAR in a year when he had less than 1 BB/9. I don't know how often you can expect a sub-1.0 BB/9 out of him. He'll still be very good, but he'll likely be more Roberto Ramos than Enrique Gomez if the changeup doesn't fill out. Having a Roberto Ramos-type is nothing to shake a stick at, but it isn't a perennial 20-game winner and ace either.
